So here it is. It was bound to happen. My first Oppo rant and it's all about stupid drivers.
I was on my way back to work from lunch about 45 minutes ago and I got stuck behind a beige Ford Escape. The fact that it was beige just makes this a little bit funnier. This driver seriously had no idea how fast or slow they wanted to go. Seriously, I can handle people going 5 or 10 under the speed limit consistently. Hell, I'm all for people driving slower to be safer. Just keep your speed consistent! How hard is it to stay driving the same speed on a road that has no speed changes? I don't understand. The road in question is a 35 MPH road and this individual could decide on whether they wanted to go 25, 30 or 40 MPH. She'd be driving 25, then speed up to 40, then drop to 30, then back to 40 for a split second and then slam on her brakes and go 25 again. I don't see how someone could do that.
When I finally got to a point to where I could see how she was driving, she was unhindered. No cellphone. No dancing to music. Just a small SUV filled with the stupid I guess.

I get this all the time, especially on the highway on the way home and its usually some idiot in a Prius. I try to just cruise home using cruise control but I always seem to find a group of morons who want to play the hog all lanes, speed up slow down game. very annoying

My rant is how most people wait for the car in front of them to get 20 feet ahead before starting off. Jeez people, If you left with the car in front of you (you can increase following distance as you gain speed) it would get so many more cars through the light. Baaaarg.

I see this a lot when people are unfamiliar with an area, she was probably looking for a specific street to turn on to.

FWIW I also usually see these people false signal about a dozen times before actually making a turn.

When I was learning to drive, my father constantly badgered me about keeping a constant speed. And he wouldn't let me use the cruise control, which was also a good idea with a young driver. I can deal with people not using their turn signals, or driving under the limit, if they're in the right lane and being consistent about it. But it's very difficult for other drivers to plan ahead when another driver is being inconsistent with their speed.
I was driving home from Abilene (TX) last Sunday on a 4-lane US highway, and there was a Suburban riding the left lane about about 74 mph (limit was 75). Then she sped up to 77, then back to about 72, then 75, etc. All the while, as I'm sitting in the right lane with my cruise set on 75, she's either sitting on my rear quarter panel, or just ahead, or just behind. She had a long line of cars queued up behind her, and me, so I finally floored it to make space for others to pass her. After about 5 miles, she had sped up and passed me again, but this time she kept going. No phone, but other passengers, so she was likely having a conversation and just not paying attention to anything other than her own little world.

I was being a little facetious, and I try to be charitable to people who are obviously lost, or maybe a little confused, or just trying to find an exit or a side street. These drivers honestly deserve our patience. But when people are being stupid because of phones or inattention, they justifiably deserve our scorn.

Agreed

I would give them that benefit, if there was a road she could have turned on. The road we were on is a winding road with no turn off's until you get to my shop.
